New Year, New Start

I decided to write about something a little more personal this month as I thought many would be able to relate in one way or another. It is a brand-new year and already we are still dealing with the pandemic and yet another variant and backpedal to some restriction which is less than ideal. On top of all that there had been a death in my family and questions start popping up like are we even going to be able to attend the funeral and grieve with my family as new restrictions have been put into place.

At a time when family should all be together and there for one another, you are being asked not to gather and not to be with your family. Family has always been so important to me and especially at a time when you take comfort in one another and try to console loved ones by telling stories and sharing memories for the ones we’ve lost. Fast forward to the day of the funeral thankfully the whole family is allowed to attend but beyond that, not all friends are allowed to be there to show their support. Then comes the sorrow you feel and there is this new variant that is spreading faster amongst us, so there is this added stress of trying to ensure your safety along with also trying to support your family members. As we walk into the funeral home double-masked, we are greeted by an employee that has to spray our hands and ask our name to see if we are on the list to be able to attend the funeral. The emotions are running high and I am not sure if I want to yell or cry. We then walk into the room and there are pockets of family spread all over the room and you are not sure if you should give everyone their space or go be in their space. My husband’s aunt walks up to us and I gave her the biggest hug I could and took comfort in knowing I could be there for her in her time of need. The service was lovely and a few of the family members share some really nice stories about a 96-year-old woman who had lived life to the fullest and with such poise and grace and happiness. She was truly a remarkable woman who will live on in all of our hearts. It was a very emotional day which ended with the family going their separate ways and gathering in the spring or summer when hopefully it will be safer to gather.

Then the day after comes and all you want to do is pull the covers over your head and melt away in your bed when your alarm goes off first thing Saturday because you want to get up and do a workout via zoom, but a part of you just wants to sleep the day away. I decide to get up and do the workout and as I am sweating and just wanting to give up, I fight even harder to give it my all and realize that workout and not giving up on myself is exactly what I need right now. So, when life seems to get you down just remember to never give up on yourself and to never stop fighting for you or your business.
