New Year, New Goals

It's that time of year again. The time of year when we all reflect on the past year and set goals for the new one. I'm not going to lie, I'm not very good at making goals. I don't like to set myself up for failure, and selecting goals is never my forte as it seems like there is so much pressure. I'm better at knowing what I want to do, and then making it happen. But during COVID, I have refocused and found my passion again, which has made making goals easier.

In order to be successful in life, it is important to set goals for yourself. This is because goals are the steps that you take to reach success. It's difficult to go anywhere without a destination in mind. In order to create a goal, you need to identify what you want to achieve, what you want to accomplish, where you want to go, and how you plan to get there. W. Clement Stone is known for this quote, "If you can't reach your goals, perhaps you need to change your goals." In other words, if you are not achieving the goals that you have set, then you are either not setting them correctly, or you are setting them for the wrong reasons. When you create goals, you need to understand that you will not be able to achieve them all the time. The art of setting goals requires knowing your own capabilities. If you are setting goals that are way beyond your own capabilities, then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Here are some good examples of goals: I will lose weight and tone my body by exercising more and eating healthier. I will take charge of my financial well-being by creating a budget and sticking to it. I will improve my health by quitting smoking and lowering my alcohol consumption. I will enjoy a more fulfilling love life by participating in workshops to enhance my communication skills. The goals will help you get started, and you will notice a change in your attitude, which makes it easier to achieve those goals.

If, by the end of the year, you find you didn’t make the goals, instead of being hard on yourself for what you didn’t achieve – focus on what you were able to accomplish. Celebrate your victories, reset and set yourself up for success!!

Until next time,
