Have you ever had a Groundhog Day moment?

February brings Groundhog Day, and who can’t help but think of Bill Murray in the movie Groundhog Day as we near this special day. For those who have not seen this movie, it is about someone doomed to repeat the same day over and over until he gets it right.

As Albert Einstein said, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” Well, that is such an easy trap to fall into. If you ever experience a Groundhog Day moment, evaluate what you could do differently to obtain a different result, and try that. Make more of what you have changed and keep trying until you get the results you are looking for. And don’t get discouraged, some people might think of this as failing. You can truly only fail, once you give up. Otherwise, you are learning from your mistakes, tweaking, and trying again.

I generally refer to it as, throwing something against the wall and seeing if it sticks. If it doesn’t, I make a change and toss it again. I keep tossing until I figure out what it will take to make it stick. Sometimes, it is small tweaks, and for others, the end result is often miles away from where I started. The main thing is that I learn from every attempt. Just as long as you are evaluating and making adjustments, you are going in the right direction.

Until next time,
