If you see footage of people getting slimmed when they walk through a door. Check your calendar there is a good chance, it’s April 1st! The first day of April each year is celebrated as April Fools’ Day.
Although it’s not a stat or legal holiday. April Fools’ Day is celebrated all around the world as a day filled with practical jokes. Most people are a bit more cautious or skeptical on this day in general.
So how did this tradition of craziness begin? In truth, it remains a mystery, although there are many theories about how April Folls’ Day got started. Some believe that April Fools’ Day is a result of wanting to celebrate the turning of Seasons (spring) In fact, many cultures have done celebrations around the beginning of April. Others believe that April Fools’ Day was started because of the adoption of a new calendar in 1582. Many ancient cultures celebrated New Year’s Day around April 1st.
In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered the use of a new Calendar, which then celebrated New Year’s Day on January 1st according to legend, but many people refused to recognize the new calendar and continued to celebrate New Year’s Day on April 1st. Eventually, others began to make fun of these fools’ by sending them to look for things that did not exist (called a fools’ errand) or tricking them into believing something false.
Although there is no real evidence of when or how April Fools’ Day got started, people all around the world still celebrate it. Pranks can be quite simple, such as telling a friend their shoe is untied or very elaborate, like planting a grass garden in your coworker’s keyboard.
